SUSTRUST Activities 2010 - Provisional Listing
January – July 2010

  1. Presentation by F. Homer on Flora and Fauna of the Northern Range for the University of Trinidad and Tobago Workshop on Quarry Rehabilitation. UTT O’Meara Campus, 1st February.
  2. Participation in the National Steering Committee Meeting of the Sustainable Hillside Farming Project implemented by the Cropper Foundation, 8th February. Hans Schulz represented Sustrust.
  3. Developed and submitted proposal to Forestry Division (Trinidad & Tobago) for training their staff. The 1-day training proposals were for: Evaluation of Effectiveness of Communication Materials, Introduction to Conflict Resolution, and Introduction to Project Management. 27th April.
  4. Participation by FHomer in the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean Annual General Meeting held in Suriname 29th April-1st May.
  5.  Sustrust was invited in May to serve on the National Steering Committee for the Invasive Alien Species Project. FHomer represented Sustrust and participated in the first NSC meeting on 7th May at Centeno.
  6. Participation in a field trip to the Acono Watershed with representatives of the Acono/Maracas Valley community on 9th May. This is part of an ongoing Sustrust technical assistance to the community group to help them deal with some quarrying issues.
  7. Participation in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Protected Areas Workshop 5-7th July held in St Lucia. FHomer also served as a respondent on the panel dealing with sustainable livelihood options.
  8. Sustrust co-sponsored a 2-day training course on Review of EIA Reports with the Department of Physical Planning and the Environment, St Kitts for key stakeholder groups. A similar training was co-sponsored with the Department of Physical Planning, Natural Resources and the Environment, Nevis. The raining was facilitated by FHomer during 13-16th July.

August – December 2010

  1. Conduct the training courses proposed for the Forestry Division.
  2. Participation in community meetings with the Acono/Maracas group.
  3. Preparation of a proposal for the establishment of a tree nursery for submission to the Green Fund.
  4. Participation in meetings of the Invasive Alien Species NSC.
  5. Participation in meeting of the Sustainable Hillside Farming Project.
  6. Participation in meetings of the Global Water Partnership Caribbean. ***
